Lets see through the “Screens”!


Screens are of various types though we don’t think about them much. But is really important to see which screen you should have. There are types of screens like-LCD,LED,OLED,Plasma etc. Today,we are going to discuss some of them and their features and advantages.

1. LCD Screens:

Liquid Crystal Display is the type of screen that uses light modulating techniques of the crystals for display purposes. When LCDs were invented, they took over the cathode ray tubes which were normally used then as LCDs are compact as the space was filled by liquid crystal arrays. Some main advantages of LCD technology are:

  • Screens are available in large range of sizes
  • Better resolution
  • Better contrast
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Low flicker rate

2. LED Screens:

Light Emitting Diode Screen,as the name suggests, is made up of LEDs. An LED display is a flat panel display, which uses an array of light-emitting diodes as pixels for a video display. Their brightness allows them to be used outdoors in store signs and billboards, and in recent years they have also become commonly used in destination signs on public transport vehicles. LED displays are capable of providing general illumination in addition to visual display, as when used for stage lighting or other decorative. The major advantages are:

  • Energy efficient
  • No startup time-lights up immediately
  • Lifetime is large
  • Contains no mercury,so environment friendly

3. OLED screens: 

An organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is a light-emitting diode (LED) in which the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compound which emits light in response to an electric current. As it works on organic materials,it is environment friendly. Advantages of OLEDs are:

  • Works without any back light
  • Can be very sleek and flexible
  • Low power consumption
  • Brighter than LEDs
  • Viewing angle is more

4. Plasma screens:

A plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display common to large TV displays 30 inches (76 cm) or larger. They are called “plasma” displays because they use small cells containing electrically charged ionized gases, which are plasmas. The major advantages are:

  • Excellent brightness: Because plasma displays use the direct lighting of phosphors (instead of a backlighting system in LCDs)
  • High resolution
  • Flat Screens

So in short, every screen has its own advantages and diadvantages. The use of screens totally depend on its application.
